Activity 1

Report on your present or previous experiences in the workplace. How best would you describe how your organization learns.

My previous workplace was a learning centre for university students. The centre conducts several activities for university students, such as seminars (historical, cultural, economy), workshops (arts, drama, filming) and service-learning programs in Hong Kong and overseas.

The director of the centre and the representatives of university establish the vision, mission and strategic directions for the learning centre. Normally, the director and the programme manager will adjust the direction and the contents of programmes each academic year.

Before every semester or special events begins, the director would encourage staff members to share their operation experience and skills for conducting activities. Usually, staff would not focus too much on programme planning.

Since the lack of systematic tools (like ICT, database, platform, questionnaire) for managing and evaluate. We can only adjust the progarmme planning by the number of participants, students’ classwork and chatting with students and the instructor.

Apply the five discipline of Senge’s, I think the director should be the system thinking of the organization, but we lack of shared vision and team learning because each staff has their own project and not too much interaction and cooperation chance.
